Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease, that results in one form of dementia, and affects memory, thinking, and behavior. New medications have been developed that are aimed at slowing the disease. However, there are no known cures for AD. Because of the progressive nature of the disease, the individual diagnosed with AD will need increasing levels of support, which is most commonly provided by spouses and family members.
