Dr. Hayden is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in providing consultation to professionals serving individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities and/or serious mental illnesses. Dr. Hayden completed her pre-doctoral internship at the UCLA Clinical Research Unit at Camarillo State Hospital and Developmental Center, where she also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in psychiatric rehabilitation. In her private practice, Dr. Hayden treats individuals experiencing the psychological and behavioral difficulties commonly faced by those challenged with developmental disabilities and severe mental illnesses. In addition to her general practice, Dr. Hayden works with the elderly challenged with memory loss and their caregivers and she is on the advisory board of the Central Coast Alzheimer's Association. Dr. Hayden is also a research psychologist at the Veteran's Administration, where she directs a research study examining the impact of providing online therapy to caregivers of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer 's disease. Mr. Hayden is a board certified behavior analyst with a master's degree in Special Education, Disability, and Risk. Mr. Hayden has a long history of providing consultation and support to those challenged with developmental disabilities and/or serious mental illnesses, and those that care about and for them. Mr. Hayden has worked as a direct support professional and administrator in various residential facilities, a clinician and researcher at the UCLA Clinical Researcher Unit at Camarillo State Hospital and Developmental Center, a supervisor for a State funded mental health team serving the homeless mentally ill, and as a behavioral consultant working with group homes and schools. Mr. Hayden's areas of emphasis include functional behavioral assessment, applied behavior analysis/positive behavioral support, treatment implementation/procedural reliability, and caregiver training. Dena A. Kaplowitz, M.A., E.S.C. - Supervisor
Miss Kaplowitz is a credentialed Education Specialist in moderate/severe disabilities. She received her K-12 teaching credential, and master's degree in Special Education, Disability, and Risk, from UCSB. Her coursework emphasized Positive Behavioral Support and additional Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) applications. She is qualified to conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and write proactive behavior plans. Dena has over 4.5 years of experience teaching individuals with autism, mental retardation, and other special needs. She taught at Connecticut's River Street School ABA Autism Program, incorporating Pivotal Response Teaching (PRT) with Discrete Trials, Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS), Picture Activity Schedules, and other ABA strategies. Dena has training in DIR/Floortime, Incidental Teaching, and Enhanced Milieu Teaching. Her master's research explored using biofeedback to teach anxiety-management, emotional regulation, and task engagement to children with autism. During her 3.5 years at the Koegel Autism Center, Dena worked with clients aged 2 to 33 years old, providing home-school collaboration, parent/caretaker education, and clinician training, as well as program supervision.
Hayden Consultation Services Associates
All HCS associates have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field, two years experience working with individuals with special needs, which includes at least one year experience in a supervisory or training role. All associates are personally trained by either Dr. or Mr. Hayden in areas specific to the settings in which they work.
Tonya R. Burch, M.A., LMFT
Ms. Burch earned her Bachelors of Science degree from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, in 1996. In 1998, she received her Masters of Arts degree from Antioch University, Santa Barbara. She is a Licensed Marriage, Family, and Child therapist. When working for Verdugo Hill, on "The Autism Project," she gained experience with Discrete Trial Training with children with autism. Tonya has worked in the past as a private behavioral consultant for numerous group homes serving the developmentally disabled. In addition to working for Hayden Consultation Services, Inc., she is in private practice in San Luis Obispo, working with children and families.

Miss Kassar earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology from UCLA in 2007. She earned her Master's in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University , Santa Barbara in 2009. Monique has provided behavioral therapy for children with autism along with children and adults diagnosed with a variety of mental health disorders.

Keiko Otsuru, B.A.
Ms. Otsuru is pursuing a credential to become an Education Specialist to help people with moderate/severe disabilities. She came to the United States from Japan to continue her education. Struggling with the language barrier, she aspired to help people who have communication problems. She received a bachelor degree in Psychology in New Hampshire and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Keiko has over 8 years of experience teaching students with autism, mental retardation, and other special needs. Her experience includes implementing Picture Activity Schedules and other ABA strategies. For 5 years, while living in Massachusetts , using the Daily Life Therapy technique, she taught at Boston Higashi School which focused on children with autism. She provided the students with systematic education through group dynamics. She taught the students academics as well as basic life skills in both the school program and the residential program. For the past 3 years, she has worked as a Para-Educator Professional working primarily with special needs children. While continuing this work, she is pursuing her goal of getting her teacher’s credentials so she can continue to work with children in a public school setting.
